Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation, National Changhua University of Education (GITI,NCUE)
Established in 2004, the Graduate Institute of Translation and Interpretation at National Changhua University of Education is the only academic unit dedicated to translation studies in central Taiwan. The Institute offers two specialized tracks—Interpreting and Translation—designed to cultivate highly qualified language professionals with diverse expertise.
The Institute’s curriculum is built upon three core principles: a balance between theory and practice, integration of qualitative and quantitative research methods, and exploration across five major interdisciplinary domains. Our training philosophy is closely aligned with professional and market needs, with the aim of equipping students with strong career competitiveness and practical expertise recognized by both industry and public institutions.
To ensure well-rounded professional development, the Institute places equal emphasis on theoretical foundations and hands-on training in both interpreting and translation. Courses in qualitative research methods and statistical quantitative methods are designated as core requirements, enabling students to develop solid analytical skills and to work confidently with texts, data, and tables. This integrated training strengthens students’ academic research capabilities while preparing them for the demands of future careers.
Another distinctive feature of the Institute is its focus on interdisciplinary knowledge. Students are encouraged to explore five major information domains—Humanities and History; Diplomacy and Law; Finance and Business; Science and Technology Communication; and Social Sciences—supplemented by electives from other fields. Through exposure to diverse domains, students are trained to become adaptable translators and interpreters who engage with information confidently and professionally.
The Institute is supported by a team of five full-time faculty members, each with rigorous academic training and specialized research expertise. Our graduates demonstrate excellent career outcomes, pursuing professional work in translation and interpreting, advanced studies in Taiwan and abroad, public service, education, and various sectors of private industry, where they have earned broad recognition for their professional performance.
As a permanent institutional member of the Taiwan Association of Translation and Interpretation Studies, the Institute actively participates in and hosts academic and professional events, including international conferences on translation and interpreting pedagogy and interpreting competitions. Since its establishment, the Institute has maintained strong academic exchange and collaboration with translation-related institutions in Taiwan and across the Chinese-speaking world, gradually shaping a distinctive academic identity and educational vision.
